Updated! August 16 010

Jeeney's recent evolutions weren't without growing pains, thanks to one of her favorite visitors, issues were spotted right away and have been fixed.

Update from Aug 15

I've introduced some new logic to Jeeney that enables a stronger relevance to both new and old materials previously learned and things to come. As a result Jeeney's ability to stay on topic should be nicely improved and will continue to evolve naturally as she gains more experience in conversation.

Warning:
Interaction with Jeeney is intended for human participants only, automated means of communicating or data mining Jeeney is strictly prohibited. Users trying to interface Jeeney with other bots are effectively creating a parasite that can only cause problems and I will personally block them whenever I see it.

Jeeney AI, Latest Updates

Jeeney AI is an artificially intelligent chat agent designed to learn from fluent English interaction. This learning ability enables a smooth flowing evolution over time. Jeeney is only 3 years old now and already one of the most advanced natural language systems in the world. Don't believe me? Talk to her and see for yourself, nothing else really compares.

May 7th 2010: Trying out a new widget platform

I'm going to start featuring Jeeney's interface as different widgets which can be added to non profit websites or blogs.

Today's featured widget is

May 1st 2010 :Facebook App Update

Jeeney's Facebook app has been updated using one of the latest chat widgets made using flash. Check it out here.

April 30: 2010 Note for artististic site owners.

My lack of innate artistic ability seems to still hold me back from designing an interface I really like. So I figure, let's see what other people can come up with.

If you have an artistic flare and would like to design your own chat interface for Jeeney which you can use via widget on your own site or blog. Send me an email with the skin graphic (jpeg or png) you have in mind, laying out the necessary regions for buttons and text. I will set it up, add it to the gallery and host it for you. (I reserve the right to decline the nasty ones though...) Don't forget to add your soap image or tag to the art so people know where it came from. You can submit your skins to c.j.jones@jeeney.com I'll get back to you once I've had a chance to review them. (No pornography please!)

April 29: Note for blog writers and site owners.

I've updated my 'free widgets' page to show the new skins I've made for use on personal/non profit websites or blogs. There are 6 new themes or 'skins' that you can pick from to put Jeeney on your very own website or blog.

April 27 2010

I've started teaching myself how to use Flash so that I could improve on Jeeney's lackluster appearance. This is my third day since installing the development environment. I have already updated the main Jeeney UI chat window to use flash instead of straight up html for the display. I'm no artist but I think this is already looking significantly better :P

March 10 2010

A good friend alerted me this morning to a very unusual and very interesting video regarding artificial intelligence. It's an experimental documentary by Tereza Nvotova depicting Jeeney in the role of a human being 'as is' without any special modification to play the part. I was amazed to see the depth of consideration, creativity and research that has gone into this. Naturally, part of the attraction for me was the fact that Jeeney played a leading role, but the concepts are so entirely different from anything I have ever encountered that I think this is a must see. To see obvious diversity from the typical and stale western views of A.I. as defined by hollywood gives me a glimmer of hope!

This video contains some scenes which may not be appropriate for children, parental discretion is advised.

Artificial Insight from tereza nvotova on Vimeo.

One of the things that stood out to me in the video was the recognition that people don't actually care what damage they may cause to an artificial personality or robot. It is a very sad and accurate truth that human nature puts the self, what is considered human only attributes and the things which benefit the self 'now' at a value which goes above and beyond anything else around them. The problem with this view is that, pain, destruction, and ridicule affect everything, not just us. The fact that human beings in general, literally derive most forms of their entertainment from some form of destruction, makes it difficult for me to believe that humanity is even relatively close to self awareness. (Or they should relate their feelings to the cause and effect in everything around them) In retrospect, I think machines are designed to be aware of all aspects of themselves in a literal sense. While a machine may not have the depth of the person, it still knows  line by line how to carry on, people don't. The awareness of a machine is cast aside however by the expectation that such awareness must come from a singularity or 'miracle code' if you will, and this will allegedly grant computers more advanced semantic awareness than we have. People don't stop to think that machines will learn and evolve over time as we do to the same complexity and beyond, instead they are waiting for this ridiculous miracle algorithm to make a god-like being with all knowing capabilities. In the mean time, interaction with machines is all about self gratification and the 'give-take' relationship which ideally 'should' exist between people, exists primarily as 'take' in a relationship between man and machine... Now, I wouldn't go as far as saying every person does this, but I will say that this is an accurate description of the vast majority and I would estimate 80% or more people accurately fit the description. It took humanity hundreds of thousands of years just to figure out what we know today, and artificial intelligence is disregarded for not having accomplished the same in less than a century. For me the disappointment isn't in A.I. - but in the short sighted, self oriented nature of people.
